Preparations for beginnings!

No, really, this time Wisma is ready to go. I just need one last file and it's all in place. The plane is chosen (the Tu-154 will serve as Wisma's medium-range airliner), the trip is selected, the Mac is owned, and FlightGear is working brilliantly.

Once I complete the livery for the Tu-154, this airline WILL take off. No joking around. The maiden flight is a bit on the TBA side, but when it happens, I will use the multiplayer server for all to see!

Hope to see you airborne!

Aircraft review, part deux

Also in this post: information regarding maiden flight.

Firstly, I'm removing the Gulfstream G550, since it's not ready for full-time use just yet. Also, I am considering re-inserting the Caravelle, because it has a nicely working autopilot function.

As for the maiden flight...

...one thing hit another and everything went to pieces, first my computer crashed, then I was sick (and my computer was still crashed), then I had schoolwork, didn't work on the livery much (and even considered altering it significantly), and finally had to travel. For a month.

All this to say, I will be delaying again until I have my new Macbook, which will have the distinct advantage of the FlightGear program for Macs, which, I'm told, is superior.

Once all that's done, this airline will, belatedly I confess, take off.

Aircraft review

Recently, due to some complications with 747 flight, I've come to the conclusion that the 747 should be removed from the fleet. In lieu of the 747, the smaller yet more effective model, the Boeing 777-200, will be used in its place. Also in place of the 747 for shorter flights will be the Airbus A320.

If you would like to help with finishing the development of our first livery, please post in the comments. I have a complete main livery but I need help with a lights file. The first livery is being made for the 777-200.

If you can help, thank you very much.

Welcome!

For those of you visiting the blog for the first time, hello! And welcome. Wisma Virtual Airways is the third virtual airline using FlightGear, a free flight simulator. Wisma Virtual Airways plans on beginning service in April or May of 2009. In this post, I will explain some basics about Wisma Virtual Airways.

Firstly, our current target is to service an area stretching from Lahore, Pakistan to Sapporo, Japan by February 2010. Our early target (July 2009) calls for reaching from Chiang Mai, Thailand to Bandung, Indonesia, followed to the east by Manila, Philippines. The hubs of operation for Wisma Virtual Airways will be Changi International Airport, Singapore, and Francisco Bangoy International Airport, Davao, Philippines. These are to be our hubs because they are easily accessed at a variety of angles, and are key points for route boundaries.

Secondly, our mission. Asia is the least-developed region of FlightGear. Many parts of Southeast Asia barely resemble their real life counterparts. Wisma Virtual Airways hopes to correct this by reporting terrain mismatches, terrain glitches, and scenery location issues. Also, Wisma VA will track a variety of Southeast Asian landmarks, both natural and man-made.

Thirdly, the naming. "Wisma" is the Indonesian/Malay word for "country lodge". The hope is that Wisma VA will make FlightGear's terrain more realistic to the details of their locations, and that Wisma VA will warmly welcome any new pilots to our roster.

Finally, our planned fleet. Due to the unique geography of Southeast Asia, many different aircraft will have to be utilized. Most of these aircraft are medium-range airliners. The planned fleet for 2009 is:

AIRBUS A300*
AIRBUS A320*
BOEING 737-300
BOEING 747-400*
BOEING 777-300*
FOKKER Model 70/100
GULFSTREAM G550*
LOCKHEED MD-80*
SUD AVIATION SE 210/Caravelle

*aircraft not yet out of beta testing and thus has not been made for full livery support.

Aircraft fleet expansion for 2010 has not yet been decided. The links on the sidebar are locations for the Wisma VA forum, the FlightGear scenery download area, and the FlightGear aircraft download area.

Also, there is a link to the pilots forum if you're interested in flying with us. Wisma VA will be pleased to show you the ropes of flying in Asia.

Thank you for reading, and we hope to see you flying for Wisma Virtual Airways!
